The recent change of the Facebook layout to timeline makes most of my friends not very happy about that. But why people dislike it? And who are benefits from the Timeline feature?
The new layout of Facebook allows users to track down all the old post without scrolling and scrolling down the web but just clicking the year on the navigation bar on the right. This makes lost of people feel uncomfortable of the stalk-like feeling when your friends are looking at your Facebook. With the timeline features, Facebook gather your post in categories, such as Likes and Places, which allows one to know what pages you liked and where have you been since your Facebook account is created. Again, this makes people feel bad when new friends are able to know their past.
Apart form the new feature, people criticize the packed layout of Timeline. Two columns is designed to show posts according to the time sequence, however, the left and right makes people hard to follow. Sometimes it does confuse me where should i start to look at and whether the left one come first or the one on the right?
Other than that, the Cover Photo area creates some trouble to individuals users, at least for me. lol
Which picture i should choose to be my cover? Something that i like or something that can represent me? Or what else? This always makes me feel so annoyed.
But than I think the Cover Photo area provides a very good platform for Pages users, the Companies. This large eye-catching and centered area allows them to post their most recent promotion and message to their customer. This would probably attracts most of the attention from people who surf their pages, indeed a very good digital marketing tactic.
I think timeline makes us easier to "stalk" other people because of its distinguished year functions.
ReplyDeleteBut I have to admit that the layout of facebook is more presentable and interactive right now! You can also add important events to your timeline in the past, so I would say timeline is not that evil but it surely raises privacy problems!
Haha... that's true. the life events function does give people a great chance to showoff, like where have i been during the vocation and they are in a relationship or engaged. lol

ReplyDeleteFor me, FB assumed it's users want to share everything they posted to everyone. And FB was created to be share. However, this is not the reality and it raise a lot of privacy issue to users. And users have to well-control their privacy settings.
DeleteAgree with the problem of 2 columns because I don't know where to start looking at the posts. But I do like the feature of cover photo as it represents me effectively. :D
